Ray On The Charles (1987)

Drawing inspired by this concert,
by Edward Koehler.
In 1987* Ray Charles performed at least four times in the Boston area. "Time to call it a summer when [Ray Charles] performs in the Metropolitan District," the Boston Globe wrote.
On September 12 he did two gigs on one day. It started with a show at the Bicentennial Celebration with the US Air Force Academy Band, where 40,000 people attended.
The second concert was at the Hatch Shell, with the Ray Charles Orchestra. It was titled Ray On The Charles, and it was recorded for television.

Personnel:
Musicians: Chris Lega, Al Jackson, Ricky Woodard, Rudy Johnson, Leroy Cooper - saxophone; Mike Christiansen, Armin Marmolejo, Steve Sigmund, Charlie Shofner - trombone; Mark Curry, Bobby Medina, Ted Murdock, Jeff Kaye - trumpet; Ernest Vantrease - organ; Kenny Carr - guitar; Anders Swanson - bass; Paul Kreibich - drums. The Raelettes: Sharon Creighton, Estella Yarbrough, Trudy Cohran, Elaine Woodard, Angela Workman.

* Many thanks to Steve Sigmund for the line-up & for correcting the date.

I suppose the whole Hatch Shell concert was filmed and broadcast. Who knows more?
