Ray Charles plays five numbers with a trio (three of them with Oscar Pettiford on bass) and jams on three other tunes (
Hornful Soul, Ain't Misbehavin', and
Joy Ride) with a septet arranged by Quincy Jones. The solos are for David Newman on tenor and alto, and trumpeter Joe Bridgewater. #6 and 8 were recorded on 30 April 1956; #2, 4 and 5 were recorded on 20 November 1956, #3, #1 and 7 on 12 September 1957 - all in New York.
