Ray (with the Raelettes and his orchestra) performed Alexander's Ragtime Band, Crying Time (with Gwen Berry), and (cf. photo on the left) Tell All The World About You.
The band that started out the spring before seems to have largely dissolved before it reached this gig. The line-up of the band must have been rather similar to (but certainly was not identical with) the musicians mentioned in an October 15 Billboard ad. Billy Moore on drums, Steve Guillory on guitar, Edgar Willes on bass.
Adam "Batman" West was host. In his introdcution he quotes Sinatra saying that Ray was "the giant of our profession". This would replace Sinatra's infamous "genius" quote from the 1966 feature story in Life. Did West's writers get the story wrong, or did Life?
Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Joey Heatherton, and comedian George Carlin were the other guests.
Currently, VHS (and DVD?) editions of all The Hollywood Palace series seem to be out of stock, but sometimes a DVD bootleg (with PAL time code) is offered on websites.
F.l.t.r.: Vermettya Royster, Merry Clayton, Gwen Berry, Clydie King. |
