The song was written in 1963 by Gerry Goffin and Carole King. Brother Ray 'found it back' in his frailer days. (I hope that Melbourne concert from '67 will be made public someday soon...).

After singing the song with Ella Fitzgerald at the Moulin Rouge in 1989, Ray kept the song on his repertoire for trio gigs.
But the scene in the biopic Ray, where 'he' plays this Nat Cole signature tune in his 'early years' in Seattle is of course quite authentic:

The Way You Look Tonight

On August 10, 1999 the Jazz In Marciac festival announced a surprise package: the "Ray Charles Quartet - with special guest David 'Fathead' Newman".

Having to record this song with Steve Turre just a few days later (be it in a different arrangement), gave Ray and Peter Turre a good reason for a live 'rehearsal'.
Hopefully there's still a good recording floating around somewhere (I have listened to a low quality audience-taped recording of the concert).

On November 22, 2000 Ray Charles was supposed to play with his big band and The Raelettes, but due to an air traffic controllers lightning strike in Lisbon, his personnel was stuck at the airport. The day of the concert Ray arrived in Paris with only his rhythm section. They worked out a new show at their hotel, and came on stage late. The recording was directed by Gérard Pullicino.

It resulted in a unique unplugged concert film. Tom Fowler stated, "Trouées! J'avais perdu mes chaussures dans les coulisses, mais j'avais retrouvé la joie de jouer avec Ray" (I've lost my shoes backstage, but I've found back the joy of playing with Ray).
Jean-Pierre Grosz, Ray's agent in France and the producer of some of his last albums, insisted that this concert took place 40 years after his first triumph at the Olympia theater (where, in reality, Ray made his Olympia debut in 1962).  Read full story here (in French).
